DVRPC launched its Bicycle Cyclical Count Program in 2014. The program collects and analyzes bicycle volumes to track trends at 150 different locations in the nine-county region. These locations were selected for their representative attributes, like having different types of bicycle facilities, such as multi-use trails, dedicated bicycle lanes, striped shoulders, sharrows, and in mixed traffic.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced the first phase of the new $5 billion Climate Pollution Reduction Grants (CPRG) Program. Under Phase One, EPA will directly award up to $1 million to each of the 67 most populous Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) in the country to develop a climate action plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in their MSA. DVRPC will serve as the lead entity for the Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington, PA-NJ-DE-MD MSA.
The the DVRPC Board approved $860,000 in grants for 11 trails and trail connections in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. This round of Regional Trails Program funding was specifically for communities that have faced historic or current discrimination in the allocation of resources or have been subject to a disproportionate share of environmental burdens.
On February 1, U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg announced a historic $800 million in grant awards for 510 projects through the new Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant Program, a record amount of funding to improve roads and address traffic fatalities. DVRPC was awarded $1.47 million for its Regional Vision Zero 2050 Action Program.
The most recent Travel Trends in the Delaware Valley Region analyzes data for the 2015 to early 2020 (pre-COVID) time period. Most of the economic and travel trends during this period were pointing upward in a positive direction.
