City officials announced today a new Vision Zero safety study along the Hunting Park Avenue corridor, between Wissahickon Avenue and Old York Road. The goal of the project, a partnership with DVRPC, is to engage with people who work, live, or go to school in the area and identify future safety improvements based on Vision Zero strategies.

The DVRPC Board has approved $1.2 million toward 13 projects in Southeastern Pennsylvania through the Transportation and Community Development Initiative (TCDI) program. TCDI grants support smart growth initiatives that implement the Connections 2050: Plan for Greater Philadelphia and improve the multimodal transportation network.

DVRPC and officials from Delaware County held a news conference on Tuesday, September 27 to announce an award for $150,000 to fund a road safety study on Route 291. It is one of 13 projects to receive a total of $1.2 million in funding through the Transportation and Community Development Initiative (TCDI), a grant program that supports smart growth initiatives that improve the multimodal transportation network.

Safe, accessible, and affordable housing is the foundation for livable communities. Housing is also central to improving public health and supporting the regional economy. DVRPC’s housing work includes data analysis and targeted studies designed to help our planning partners better understand trends, increase housing choice, lower housing costs, and make housing accessible to more members of our communities.

DVRPC pursues an active, wide-ranging approach to improving safety for all road users. With our regional partners, DVRPC embraced a Vision Zero goal of eliminating deaths and serious injuries from crashes in the region by 2050.

The DVRPC Board has approved over $7.5 million toward 22 projects in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The projects are funded through the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program, which funds projects that make biking and walking to school safer and more appealing; and the Travel Options Program (TOP), a program created by DVRPC, which funds projects that provide better access to more travel options across the region, such as walking, biking, and taking transit, with the goal of reducing the number of single occupancy vehicles.

Pennsylvania’s first automated vehicle (AV) shuttle is coming to Philadelphia this summer. The zero-emissions shuttle will provide visitors and employees with transportation services within the Philadelphia Navy Yard and to SEPTA’s NRG Station located at Broad Street and Pattison Avenue.

The DVRPC Board has awarded $7.9 million to ten local projects in Southeastern Pennsylvania through the Regional Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program (TASA). The federal program funds community-based "non-traditional" projects designed to strengthen the cultural, aesthetic, and environmental aspects of the nation's intermodal transportation system. Selected projects include trail, sidewalk, pedestrian improvements, and on-road bicycle improvements.

A new analysis examines how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected bicycle and pedestrian traffic in two areas of Philadelphia. Using data collected from the intersection of Front and Chestnut streets and the Schuylkill River Trail near the Walnut Street Bridge, the analysis compares pre-pandemic usage from March 2019 to March 2020, to usage in July 2021 to July 2022, when some residents began to resume normal activities despite COVID-19’s lingering presence.
