Environmental Planning Intern

Job Description

Assist with DVRPC’s environmental planning efforts, including collecting and analyzing data, conducting research, developing materials, and providing administrative support with a primary focus on DVRPC’s Regional Trails Program. Tasks related to healthy communities planning, climate change resiliency efforts, and general environmental planning may also be assigned as needed.  Intern may be responsible for webpage development, GIS analysis, policy research, quantitative analysis, and report writing, depending on project needs and candidate’s interests and skills.

Responsibilities

The student will assist professional staff with research, data collection, data analysis and synthesis, and meeting preparation.  Intern will be an integral member of a project team and will work with DVRPC’s planning partners to implement multiple programs.  

Qualifications

  • Interest and experience in regional planning issues in Greater Philadelphia.
  • Interest and some background in environmental issues affecting the Philadelphia area.
  • Interest in the planning and development of multi-use trail networks.
  • Ability to perform in-depth research independently, including conducting interviews.
  • Ability to interpret and display data.
  • Good writing and communications skills.
  • Proficiency in MSOffice Software Suite is required, GIS and Adobe Suite experience a plus.

Availability

This position requires a commitment of up to 15 hours per week.

Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Students with Work-Study funding are encouraged to apply.

Minimum Education and Training

Must have completed at least THREE YEARS of a college/university program or be enrolled in a master's program (preferred), or an equivalent combination of experience and training, plus substantial experience, interest, or involvement in environmental planning.
