Job Description
DVRPC’s Division of Operations, Communications, and Engagement manages the organization’s overall communications strategy and messaging; develops and executes public participation, outreach, and engagement activities; and disseminates public information, among many other responsibilities. The division is involved in a variety of activities across the organization including external communications, graphic design, internal communications, public engagement,
employee engagement, and special initiatives. Close supervision for this role is provided by the Communications Manager.
Responsibilities
- Assist with several key projects including the Annual Report, monthly e-newsletter, DVRPC website, press releases, email blasts, and project-specific efforts.
- Assist with various public relations functions including media databases, news clippings, and photo research.
- Research organizations and community groups in the region to target for future outreach and update current database.
- Research best practices of public involvement, outreach, and general metropolitan planning organization (MPO) activities.
- Help plan and maintain DVRPC’s social media presence on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Threads.
- Perform related work as required.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of and experience with communications, public relations, and public outreach principles.
- Knowledge of community and economic development, transportation and environmental planning, and community issues.
- Excellent writing and communications skills, especially with social media and other digital channels.
- Ability to prioritize work and multi-task.
- Proficiency in Google Suite is required.
- Basic knowledge of Philadelphia regional issues and geography. Availability
The ability to start on June 1st, 2026 is preferred. This is a hybrid, full-time position requiring a commitment of 37.5 hours per week.
Compensation
$19 per hour for interns currently holding or pursuing a Bachelor’s degree. $22 per hour for candidates currently holding or pursuing a Master’s degree. Students with Work-Study funding are encouraged to apply.
Minimum Education and Training
Must have completed at least one year of a college/university program or be enrolled in a master's, or an equivalent combination of experience and training, plus substantial experience, interest, or involvement in planning.
