The Urban Waterfront Action Group (UWAG) was created in 1980 through the PA Coastal Zone Management (CZM) Program to provide "one-stop" shopping for information about waterfront development permits in the Delaware Estuary. UWAG meets every other month, as needed, to provide a pre-permit application service whereby potential waterfront developers and regulatory agencies can meet to identify and hopefully resolve potential permitting issues. UWAG meetings occur in advance of detailed project engineering.
Agencies that participate in UWAG include the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection's (PA DEP's) Southeast Region Office and Coastal Zone Management Program, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Philadelphia District Office (both of these agencies have permitting authority over waterfront projects), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Marine Fisheries Service, U.S. EPA, Delaware River Basin Commission, U.S. Coast Guard MSO-Group Philadelphia, PA Fish and Boat Commission, and various county and local planning departments.
The UWAG is offered on a purely voluntary basis to anyone interested in developing or expanding a waterfront project in the Delaware Estuary. All meetings begin at 10AM in the DVRPC's Main Conference Room, unless otherwise specified. Meeting agendas are emailed to UWAG members two weeks before the meeting.
Meetings on odd numbered months will address trainings and discussions of relevant topics as well as project reviews. These will be regularly held meetings. Meeting dates on even number months are reserved for project reviews and will be cancelled if there are no projects presented for review.
