PATCO – A Presentation on the History of PATCO

In recognition of PATCO’s 50th Anniversary, DRPA Principal Engineer Mike Howard will present a brief history of PATCO; from bridge line operation to becoming the first of an entirely new generation of mass transportation; followed by PATCO General Manager John Rink who will update Members of the RTC on celebratory events planned for the year.

6.   DVRPC Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) Actions

The dynamic nature of funding transportation improvements and the need to remain within financial constraint require amendments or modifications to the TIP. The following projects require formal TIP Amendments or Modifications this month for the FY 2019 TIP for PA and the FY 2018 TIP for NJ.

a.    PA19-24: Morton Avenue/Swarthmore Avenue Intersection Improvements and Morton Avenue Sidewalk (MPMS #57757), Delaware County – Remove Project from TIP

7.        FY 2019 Work Program Amendment

To respond to the needs of member governments and agencies, work program changes and additions are brought to the RTC to permit the timely undertaking of technical activity.

Frankford Avenue Multimodal Study  

The City of Philadelphia has requested an evaluation of the Frankford Avenue corridor between Cheltenham Avenue and Rhawn Street with the goal of improving safety and predictability for all users. It will examine opportunities to slow vehicular traffic, improve pedestrian safety and walkability, mitigate current loading challenges, designate space for bicyclists, and investigate stormwater management opportunities while considering the impact on the Route 66 and opportunities to enhance the plaza at Cottman and Frankford Avenues.

8.        Pottstown Area Regional Plan Development

The Pottstown Metropolitan Regional Planning Committee (PMRPC) region has been experiencing significant growth recently, and this trend is expected to continue in the near future. In FY 2018 and FY 2019, DVRPC staff conducted a regional traffic analysis to identify, quantify and plan for such growth. Staff will present the result of the analysis, as well as findings and recommendations and an action plan for the recommended improvements.

9.        Mercer County Master Plan: Bicycle Element

DVRPC and Mercer County collaborated to create a detailed bicycle plan with designs and ballpark cost estimates for all 175 miles of county maintained roadways based on newly developed county complete streets standards. This plan will be used to prioritize county highway projects for implementation through maintenance, operational improvements, and major capital projects.
