Four profiles run from the 1990 Census of Population for each of the counties in the 28-county region: 1) characteristics of persons, 2) characteristics of age, race, sex, and spanish origin, 3) characteristics of households and families, 4) characteristics of housing units.

A network of inactive rail lines has been created in this region due to the restructuring of the railroad industry and the changing economics and demographics of the region.
