Job Description
The Digital Media Specialist will join DVRPC’s division of Operations, Communications, and Engagement, which manages the organization’s overall communications strategy and messaging; develops and executes public participation, outreach, and engagement activities; and disseminates public information, among other responsibilities. The division is involved in a wide variety of activities across the organization, including external communications, graphic design, internal communications, public engagement, employee engagement, website management, and special initiatives. This position reports directly to DVRPC’s Associate Director of Communications and Creative Services.
Responsibilities
- Assist with planning and implementing DVRPC’s overall communications strategy.
- Manage DVRPC’s website; regularly update it to keep content current and relevant; and write, edit, proofread, and update website copy and other content to be engaging, informative, and in alignment with best practices.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to maintain a consistent and compelling online presence and enhance website usability and performance.
- Implement SEO to improve search engine rankings and ensure content is discoverable.
- Monitor website traffic, user engagement, and other key metrics using analytics tools to identify areas for improvement.
- Ensure all web content meets or exceeds accessibility guidelines.
- Assist with the work of the division, including the newsletter, social media, annual report, and product review management. This will involve developing messages and promotional materials for different audiences on various communication channels.
- Assist with internal communications and employee engagement activities.
- Assist with public participation activities, including staffing public meetings and supporting public outreach activities.
- Work in project teams on various planning and research projects, and prepare reports and memos, as needed.
- Represent the division at internal meetings, and represent DVRPC at external meetings and events.
- Perform related planning, communications, and administrative work, as needed.
Qualifications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Considerable experience in communications.
- Proficient in content management systems.
- Demonstrates expertise with search engine optimization and Google Analytics.
- Experience with or exposure to archive research and management.
- Experience or demonstrated interest in multimedia content creation.
- Familiarity with digital accessibility standards.
- Considerable experience with Google Suite and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proven ability to manage projects and meet established deadlines.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, partners, and the general public.
- Ability to work occasional weekends and weeknights for public meetings or special events.
- Ability to transport up to 25. lbs of files, equipment, or supplies. Ability to move to access files, equipment, or supplies.
Experience & Training
To be classified as an AA II, a minimum of three years of professional experience in communications, digital media, journalism, public affairs, or library science, and a bachelor’s degree are required. A master’s degree can be substituted for one year of experience.
