Planning Intern

Job Description

The Livable Communities Section is seeking one intern for the summer of 2024 to support the Economic Development District work program. Potential candidates should be available up to 35 hours per week and demonstrate interest in subjects generally related to economics, smart growth, and community and economic development.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Associate Director, Livable Communities, the intern’s primary tasks will be to provide assistance related to the facilitation of the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS). Assistance may also be required with the following activities:

  • Economic Development Stakeholder Engagement.
  • Subsector analysis.
  • Multi Modal Access to Tourism and America250 Coordination.
  • Broadband Data Analysis.
  • Downtown Retail Districts.
  • Economic Development Project Development.
  • Incentive Area Data Updates.

Candidates who are detail-oriented with a keen interest in research and data gathering, as well as analytical skills, are encouraged to apply. Individuals who can demonstrate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (specifically Excel, including Pivot Tables), GIS, and the Adobe Creative Suite are particularly attractive to the department.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of, and experience with, general regional planning, economics, and community and economic development.
  • Passion for research, and data gathering and analysis.
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and problem solve independently and within a team environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, GIS, and Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
  • Knowledge of U.S. Census Data and other publicly available data sources.
  • Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of the Greater Philadelphia area is desired.

Availability

Potential candidates should be available up to 35 hours per week within a hybrid work environment.

Compensation

Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Students with Work-Study funding are encouraged to apply.

Minimum Education and Training

Must have completed at least THREE YEARS of a college/university program or be enrolled in a master's program, or an equivalent combination of experience and training, plus substantial experience, interest, or involvement in planning.
