An average of 377 people lost their lives in crashes on the roads of the Delaware Valley each year between 2008 and 2010. Approximately 45,000 people were injured in approximately 85,000 crashes. The 2012 Transportation Safety Action Plan: Improving Transportation Safety in the Delaware Valley (DVRPC Publication #12030) includes a methodology to define key safety emphasis areas, a range of strategies for each of the seven emphasis areas, and a focused implementation table to reduce the number of fatalities. The report was developed with guidance from the multi-disciplinary Regional Safety Task Force. This set of seven cards summarizes the seven emphasis areas in the 2012 Transportation Safety Action Plan: Improving Transportation Safety in the Delaware Valley. The cards provide a brief definition of each emphasis area, a chart detailing the number and percentage of fatalities for which the emphasis area was a contributing factor in each county, recommended strategies to address each emphasis area, and a sample of safety partners working on the issue. The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) fully complies with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Civil Rights Restoration Act of 1987, Executive Order 12898 on Environmental Justice, and related nondiscrimination mandates in all programs and activities.
