82015 | North Valley Road Caisson Installation (Chester County)

North Valley Road Caisson Installation
Tredyffrin Township, Chester County
Installation of caisson along North Valley Road (SR 1005) at Paoli Transportation Center
This project is a breakout of MPMS 47979(Parent).
5/30/25: District control has changed from TSS/MS to HNTB/NV.
In an effort to advance a portion of the Paoli project while we are waiting on availability of full Amtrak support, we are separating out one critical piece of the project to save time later in the construction schedule. We are separating out the construction of one new catenary wire support pole that is just west of the proposed roadway bridge for an advance construction package. The construction of the foundation, fabrication of the catenary pole and installation of this catenary pole is a task that typically takes 6-12 months to fully complete. This pole is critical to reconfiguration of Amtraks overhead wiring system to allow for placement of the new bridge beams and construction of the new bridge structure. This construction effort includes the following:
- Contractor will prepare shop drawings for catenary pole
- Designer will review / approve shop drawings for catenary pole fabrication
- Contractor will prepare site specific work plan for submission to Amtrak
- Amtrak will review/approve the site specific work plan
- Contractor will prepare / acquire a right of entry permit from Amtrak
- Contractor will install positive protection/fencing between work area and the railroad tracks. (Anticipate 1-2 days of Amtrak flagging required.)
- Contractor will survey pole location
- Contractor will drill foundation for the new pole
- Contractor will install rebar, anchor bolts and concrete for pole foundation
- Contractor will survey anchor bolt locations
- Contractor will arrange for fabrication of the catenary pole
- Contractor will install catenary pole. (Anticipate 1 day of Amtrak flagging required.)
With this catenary pole installed, Amtrak will have more flexibility to complete overhead wiring work as their crew(s) are available and save time in the overall PennDOT project.
