Delaware Valley Goods Movement Task Force and Transportation Operations Task Force Joint Meeting Agenda


1. Welcome and Introductions

Barry Seymour, Executive Director, DVRPC will welcome the Task Forces and introduce the meeting’s speakers.

2. Philadelphia Smart Loading Zones

Akshay Malik, Smart Cities Director, City of Philadelphia, will share details of the City’s newly announced Smart Loading Zone pilot project. This pilot will introduce 21 paid, curbside loading zones in Center City, and delivery drivers will be able to reserve spaces and times through a smart phone app. The goal of the pilot is to provide a reliable way for drivers to safely use curb spaces, to manage increased loading activity, and to reduce unsafe and illegal parking.

3. Potential Emergency Truck Parking Locations during Extreme Weather Research Project

Steven Levine, Executive Director, TRANSCOM will present on a recent research project that considered the possibility of using public areas in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania as temporary locations that could accommodate commercial vehicles and allow them to park when facing unexpected weather adversities.

4. Pennsylvania Turnpike Truck Parking Management System

John Fuller, P.E., McMahon Associates, will present on the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission's truck parking management system that has been developed to provide truck drivers with the information they need to make informed and safe parking decisions. The system will provide near, real-time truck parking availability data to truck drivers via digital message signs along the turnpike. This data will also be available to drivers through other travel apps and third-party truck parking information systems.

5. Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association on Truck Parking and Operations

Bob Dolan, Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association (PMTA), will highlight some of the main issues that drivers and carriers face regarding truck parking. He will also share how new truck parking technologies and intelligent transportation systems can support drivers and how collaboration with TIS and incident management teams can support freight movement in the region.

6. Two Minute Agency Reports

Agencies have the opportunity to discuss any items of interest such as recent accomplishments, status of on-going projects and/or future efforts
