Home to Widener University, an institution with a rich history of more than 180 years of education and over 6,000 students, the City of Chester is comprised of a large population of working poor who rely heavily on bicycles for transportation. Additionally, there is a significant amount of children bicycling on neighborhood streets. This is why The City of Chester was chosen for the Share the Road Project.

Over the past eighteen months, the Share the Road program has worked with the Mayor of Chester, Widener University, Chester Community Hospital, the Coastal Task Force and the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce to distribute information on bicycle safety. Materials aimed at increasing awareness of bicyclist's rights and responsibilities have been provided to local schools and shop owners for distribution.
