Airspace Analysis
Airspace Analysis Reports for the Delaware Valley Region
Two airspace conflicts Analysis studies prepared for the Delaware Valley
Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) by Samis and Hamilton in 1990 and
1993 are available through the DVRPC - Office of Aviation.
Study 1 (1990):
A preliminary analysis covering 12 satellite airports in seven conflict
areas, including in Western Chester County - Chester County and Bob Shannon
airports, in Northwest Bucks County - Quakertown and Pennridge airports,
in Western Montgomery County - Perkiomen Valley and Pottstown-Limerick
airports, in Eastern Bucks County - Buehl and Mercer County airports,
in Central Burlington County - South Jersey Regional, Red Lion and Flying
W airports and in Western Gloucester County - the proposed Logan Township
site and Philadelphia International Airport, was conducted to determine
potential airspace approach conflicts. A summary description of current
airspace usage patterns along with a diagnosis of potential current airspace
approach conflicts are presented. Improved communication and approach
navigational aid configurations are suggested which would enhance the
current operating environment and provide superior approach capabilities.
Study 2 (1993):
This report is conducted with emphasis on the airspace analysis of the
military facilities in the region. There are three study areas, each of
which contains both military and civilian facilities. The areas with military
facilities are depicted in boldface and out-of county facilities are identified
in italic type:
Central Southern Bucks County
- Warminster NADC
- Willow Grove NAS
- Buehl (GA)
- Northeast Philadelphia (RA)
- Mercer County (COM)
- Wings (GA)
|
Central Burlington County
- McGuire Air Force Base
- South Jersey Regional (RA)
- Red Lion (GA)
- Flying W (GA)
|
Western Ocean County
- Lakehurst Naval Air Station
- Lakewood (GA)
- R.J. Miller (GA)
|
This report examines each group of air facilities, which are included
in the Regional Airport System Plan (RASP). It begins with the operations
at Philadelphia International, which shape the airspace use in the region.
Next, the study focuses on each of the three study areas and their routes,
procedures, and problems. Finally, related airport development recommendations
for the region are suggested.
