Route 611 / 263 Corridor Study
Route 611 / 263 Corridor Study
The interconnected 12 and 9-mile corridors along Route 611/Route 263 (Old York Road and Easton Road), between the boundaries of the City of Philadelphia and Bucks County in eastern Montgomery County include portions of five municipalities: Abington, Cheltenham, and Upper Moreland townships and Hatboro and Jenkintown boroughs. East-west commuting patterns to employment opportunities and the need for balance between housing and jobs are concerns. As older communities oriented to and around SEPTA's Regional Rail lines and bus service, they share a common goal of maximizing public transit ridership. Increased ridership and transit-oriented development can help to discourage additional auto trips on Routes 611 and 263, while encouraging and reinforcing their existing, more compact development pattern. Common to all the study corridor communities is a concern about economic development and revitalization in the face of continued suburban expansion to the west.
