Details on the Emergency Ride Home (ERH) Service

To qualify for ERH you must:

  • Work in southeastern Pennsylvania (Bucks, Chester, Delaware, or Montgomery counties or the City of Philadelphia)
  • Agree to share a ride to work at least 3 days a week
  • Be approved (per the information on your application)
  • Contact your local Transportation Management Association (TMA) when an emergency arrives - the TMA must authorize the emergency
  • Provide a $5 co-pay when receiving the loan vehicle
  • Be able to return the loan vehicle

How does ERH work?

  1. Once your application is accepted and filed, you're in the database and will receive an instruction form.
  2. If an emergency* arises, you call your local TMA (see MAP contacts).
  3. The TMA will call Enterprise Rental Car. Enterprise will either pick you up to take you to their nearest local branch, or bring a car to your worksite, depending on the urgency of the emergency. (Enterprise agrees to arrive to the work site within 30 minutes of contact by TMA, depending on location of work site.) Users may not call Enterprise directly!
  4. You will provide Enterprise with basic driver information and present a $5 co-pay for the service. Insurance is covered under the ERH agreement.
  5. You take the car to the place of emergency.
  6. You return the car to Enterprise the next day before 10AM. Cars may only be kept for one day unless cleared in advance. Enterprise will take you back to your worksite.

NOTE: If you cannot drive or do not have a valid driver's license, a ride via a chauffeur service will be provided. The same $5 co-pay applies. User is responsible for getting from place of emergency to their home.

What constitutes an emergency?
For the purposes of ERH, an emergency might include but is not limited to: sudden illness or injury of immediate family member or person for whom you have an appointed guardian; unplanned home problem that is immediately threatening (fire, flood, collapse, etc.); unplanned overtime required by supervisor which would prohibit using your regular ride home. The TMA representative will approve use of this service for requested emergencies.

Registered commuters may only utilize this service two (2) times in a calendar year. After the second time, you may elect to use Enterprise to provide a car but the driver is responsible for all related costs and insurance coverage.

Special note to transit riders:
The TMA will work with you to find the most time-effective method to get to your vehicle or to the place of the emergency. Please note that in some instances, depending on the location of your work site and transit schedules, it may still be faster to get to your car or to the place of emergency via transit instead of using a loan car. If schedules are not accommodating, a car will be provided.
