NJ TE Program
New Jersey's Transportation Enhancements ProgramIn New Jersey, the TE project selection process occurs at the state level. A TE Advisory Committee, comprised of NJDOT, NJDEP, other government agencies, representatives from each of the three MPO's, and representatives from interests outside the traditional transportation community, is charged with evaluating the proposed projects and recommending a "short list" of projects for consideration by the Commissioner of Transportation. Projects are evaluated based on how well they meet the following criteria: transportation related, construction readiness, local commitment, supplemental funds, user impact, regional or community benefits, element of a larger plan, timing/urgency, economic benefit, value as a cultural resource, and community support. In the second tier evaluation, short-listed projects are further reviewed by the NJDOT staff to establish technical feasibility and accuracy of project costs and to ensure that the program goals are met by the recommended group of projects The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) - New Jersey Division Office observes and monitors the selection process, providing comments and guidance when needed. There are no preferred project cost levels or goals by category. However, the Commissioner reviews the recommended project list for balance in funding levels, geographic mix, and the variety of projects. Please refer to NJDOT's website for the latest information on the Transportation Enhancements program. Projects awarded for the 2005/2006 Cycle. The next round of selections will potentially be 2009.
