Transportation Enhancements (TE)

> PA TE Process> NJ TE Process
Transportation Enhancements Transportation Enhancements (TE) are community-based projects funded under the Federal Surface Transportation Program (STP) using a set-aside of Federal highway and transit funds. TE projects are mandated by Congress in the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU), for the funding of "non-traditional" projects designed to strengthen the cultural, aesthetic, and environmental aspects of the Nation's intermodal transportation system; building on the strong foundation of ISTEA (1992-1997) and TEA-21 (FY 1998-2004)

Communities across America are using TE funds to expand travel choice, strengthen the local economy, improve the quality of life, and protect our resources.

In the DVRPC region, Pennsylvania and New Jersey each has its own procedure for selecting projects. Typical TE projects include bicycle and pedestrian trails, restoration of historic train stations, downtown streetscape improvements, roadside beautification, and preservation of scenic vistas.
