Regional Plans & Policy
Regional Plans & PolicyThe comprehensive nature of planning at DVRPC may be viewed here, with regional plans and policy reports that address issues of Welfare Reform and Job Access, Environmental Justice, Affordable Housing and Economic Development. Coordinated Human Services Transportation PlanThe imperatives of federal and state welfare reform will have significant impacts in the Delaware Valley, where over 200,000 individuals who now receive welfare face a potential end to those benefits. DVRPC performs a critical role as the regional forum for the discussion of access to jobs and welfare reform issues, including development of regional planning and implementation strategies. Environmental JusticeDVRPC's Strategy for Fair Treatment and Meaningful Involvement of All People is found here. HousingDVRPC's housing work has included a review of the regional housing market, focussing on the availability of affordable homeownership opportunities in close proximity to existing and emerging employment centers. Economic DevelopmentThrough data sharing, collaboration and proactive planning, DVRPC works with the region's economic development partners to make the Delaware Valley Region an attractive environment for new and expanding businesses, for residents, and as a premier tourism and cultural center. Smart GrowthSmart Growth describes an approach to land use planning that promotes a concentration of development and diversity of uses. The term encompasses a number of existing planning concepts and zoning capabilities, generally meant to counteract single-use zoning, suburban sprawl, separation of residential and commercial centers, and an automobile-dependant lifestyle. Planning at the EdgeThis project summarizes inter-regional issues and projects identified through DVRPC staff outreach to adjacent metropolitan planning organizations and counties with the goal of achieving cooperative solutions. A study advisory committee was formed to help guide the study process and to initiate discussion on proposed coordination, communication and cooperation techniques, issue and project priorities and other potential collaborative activities. The Planning at the Edge initiative will be continued through a follow-up DVRPC project in Fiscal Year 2008. |
