DVRPC's long-range land use and transportation plan provides a vision of the region's future and serves as the blueprint for future transportation facilities and services. A regional land use and open space plan identifies appropriate areas for future growth and infrastructure and an inter-connected system of natural resource areas targeted for protection. Forecasts of future population and employment inform the plan and Regional Indicators track progress toward its goals.

Destination 2030: The Long Range Plan

The Land Use and Transportation Plan for the Delaware Valley Region, was adopted in June 2005 and replaces the previous long-range plan, Horizons 2025.

Regional Indicators

Regional Indicators are a means to monitor and evaluate implementation of the long-range plan and determine if the recommendations are being accomplished. DVRPC has defined eight indicators of change: Physical Form, Traffic Congestion, Environment, Air Quality, Economic Development, Freight Movement, Mobility and Housing. The initial report and updates are provided.

Population and Employment Forecasts

A key component of the long-range plan is forecasts of future population and employment for each of the region's 352 municipalities, the nine counties and the region. Forecasts from 2000 to the year 2025 are currently available. The original forecasts published in March 2002 were revised in March 2005 to extend out to year 2030 and to incorporate population and employment data from the 2000 Census.

Land Use and Transportation Policy

Land use and transportation are linked because demographic and land use changes are the determinants of travel demand. DVRPC undertakes a variety of planning studies that join land use and transportation issues, including corridor and area studies, brochures on plan implementation topics and various policy papers. Recent examples of these documents are provided here.
