Crash Responder Safety Week Is November 2-6
November 2-6 is the 2026 Crash Responder Safety Week. Every few seconds, a traffic incident responder puts their life on the line to aid crash victims and to safely and quickly clear crashes and other traffic incidents that could otherwise result in a secondary crash. Every year traffic incident responders are killed in the line of duty or bear lifelong scars from life-altering injuries.
Join DVRPC and safety partners throughout the region in raising awareness concerning the dangers these individuals face every time they stop to help our fellow travelers. The theme for 2026 is “Slow Down, Move Over. Lives are on the Line!” It reminds all road users to slow down, move over, and remain alert when approaching traffic incident response activity, whether emergency workers are aiding a stalled vehicle, clearing roadway debris, or responding to a crash. In addition to being the right thing to do, it is also the law. Pennsylvania and New Jersey both have Move Over Laws, which require motorists to move over or slow down to provide a buffer for the people who work to keep our roads safe.
The Federal Highway Administration began commemorating Crash Responder Safety Week in 2016. Annually Crash Responder Safety Week is used by national associations, state and local agencies, individual responders, and others to bring attention to traffic incident responder safety.
