Corridor Planning
The Office of Transportation and Corridor Studies prepare unique, multimodal analyses and reporting documents and studies on congested transportation corridors and sub areas in the region. In addition, transportation and land use projects and strategies that will increase the accessibility and mobility of people, improve safety, enhance the environment, and improve the quality of life in the region are identified.
DVRPC takes a multimodal approach in identifying practical solutions to corridor issues in the spirit of SAFETEA-LU, working cooperatively with state, county, municipal and business stakeholders as well as the general public. Several regional corridor planning studies are completed each year in the region based on needs identified in the Long-Range Plan and the Congestion Management Process. DVRPC's corridor studies are targeted analytical studies that address specific needs of a corridor or particular geographic area. They support the initiatives and policies of the New Jersey Department of Transportation and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, and are responsive to the needs of county and municipal governments.
Corridor studies aim to promote investments in areas that are either already developed or designated as appropriate for future growth. In addition, they encourage (re)investment in centers, have limited environmental impact, and support key economic sectors. Activities include conducting county-wide transportation plans, multi-municipal corridor and area-wide transportation studies, traffic operations analyses, systematic evaluations of passenger rail stations, alternative bus routings, and parking demand estimates for transit companies in the region.
Through working with our member governments, we use the best available tools to provide advice and direction based upon evaluations of performance measures, project implementation cost data and public participation outcomes.
DVRPC Long-Range Vision for Corridor Planning
The DVRPC long-range plan, Connections, is committed to the regionwide promotion and implementation of a safe, convenient, and seamless passenger and freight multimodal transportation system. This is accomplished in a collaborative manner with a wide range of stakeholders and is based upon strong technical analysis. Planning efforts is focused on rebuilding and maintaining the region's transportation infrastructure, increasing mobility and accessibility, creating a safer and more secure system, reducing congestion, limiting transportation impacts on the natural environment, and ensuring transportation investments support the region's land use development, environmental, and economic goals.
