Supporting a sustainable future.
Connections is a plan to fundamentally transform our region; to preserve our natural resources; strengthen our communities and economy; and ultimately become a model of sustainability, productivity, and prosperity. Surely, it will take time to realize many of these goals, but there are things that everyone can do right now to begin making this vision a reality.
- Live, work, shop and play in the region's centers.
- Take transit, walk, or bike for short trips.
- Link automobile trips together and travel during off-peak times.
- Purchase energy efficient light bulbs, appliances, and cars; turn off lights and appliances when not in use.
- Make sure your home has proper insulation and keep your thermostat at 75° (or higher) in the summer months and 68° (or lower) in the winter months.
- Reduce polluting activities such as driving, mowing your lawn, or filling your car's gas tank on days with poor air quality.
- Purchase fresh foods from local sources to support our agriculture industry.
- Plant a tree, start a neighborhood garden and/or composting program.
- Vote for open space or transportation funding referendums.
- Conduct an energy-efficiency audit of your home or business.
- Consider renewable energy sources.
- Write your representatives to support the plan's policies and goals.
- Join us in shaping the future of our region by participating in public meetings, monitoring our website, and joining the Regional Citizens Committee.
- Issue 4 of the Link newsletter contains more action steps that individuals and businesses can take to implement the plan.
