GIS Intern

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail oriented individual to perform beginning level work in our GIS Office. This is an intern position assisting the GIS Office staff in the update of our land use file. There may be other opportunities to work on GIS database development and cartographic requests.

Work is performed in accordance with well prescribed procedures and defined objectives under close technical and methodological supervision.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Some basic responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Interprets land use classification from digital orthophotography.
• Performs heads-up digitizing using ArcGIS.
• Modifies existing database through geoprocessing tools.
• Performs edits resulting from QC process.
• Assists GIS staff as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Knowledge of ArcGIS software;
• Familiarity with aerial photography;
• Able to work independently;

AVAILABILITY:

This position requires a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week.
Summer session up to 37.5 hours per week.

SALARY:

Paid position at hourly rates. Students with PHEAA Work Study grants are encouraged to apply.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & TRAINING:

Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate level program.
