Web Development Co-op/Intern

JOB DESCRIPTION:
This Co-op/Intern position is in the Office of Information Technology. The incumbent will work with the Webmaster as well as the Data Analyst and Web Designer on multiple projects related to the access and presentation of data on the DVRPC Website and Intranet and will assist DVRPC’s planning project mangers with various web and data-related tasks.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Modify existing Active Server Pages (ASP) applications to enhance functionality and develop new applications, as needed;
• Develop upload/search features for the enterprise-wide photo databank and assist in the indexing of existing photos and reports by keyword;
• Assist in the development and maintenance of many agency databases, including: traffic counts, crash data, CD-ROM inventory, publications, agency contacts, Air Quality Partnership, demographic, economic, and Census.
• Assist in VB.NET development with databases connected to online, interactive maps;
• Assist with general updates, scripting and validation of the website and intranet, as needed;
• Thoroughly document all work through the use of comments and metadata.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Strong knowledge of ASP, Microsoft Access, and data collection/access via web-based forms;
• Relational database experience, including Oracle or SQL Server;
• Working knowledge of XHTML, CSS, XML, Javascript, Visual Basic/VB.NET, and Windows;
• Familiarity with .NET Framework, Web Accessibility Initiative, RSS/Atom standards, content management principals, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a plus;
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

AVAILABILITY:
This position requires a minimum commitment of 22.5 hours per week (3 days/week) during regular business hours. Co-op students will be required to work 37.5 hours per week (5 days).

SALARY:
Paid position at excellent hourly rate.
