Transit, Bicycle and Pedestrian Planning Intern

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Intern participates in transportation planning surveys, studies and programs within the Office of Transit, Bicycle and Pedestrian Planning. Close supervision is provided by a supervisor who assigns tasks, gives preliminary instructions, reviews work in process and upon completion for quality and adherence to established standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Participates in transportation studies, surveys and programs including collection, entry, tabulation, and analysis of technical data.
• Assists in the preparation of study reports and memoranda.
• Assists in the preparation of presentation material including graphs, maps and other visual displays.
• Performs related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Knowledge of, and interest in, transit, bicycle and pedestrian planning.
• Knowledge and ability with mathematical and statistical procedures and their applications.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and/or Access.
• Ability to perform field studies and inventories.
• Ability to analyze and prepare technical data clearly and concisely.
• Ability to organize time and and flexibly shift between different tasks.
• Ability to establish effective relations with associates and with representatives of public and private organizations.
• Experience with web development, design and software is highly desirable.

AVAILABILITY:
This position requires a minimum commitment of 10-20 hours per week (2-3 days/week).
Up to 37.5 hours per week during the summer semester.

SALARY:
Paid position at hourly rates. Students with PHEAA Work Study grants preferred.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & TRAINING:
Must be in an approved internship program as part of a college or university, or have a baccalaureate degree in any related discipline, plus substantial experience, interest or involvement in transit, bicycle and pedestrian transportation issues.
