Smart Growth Intern

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Assist with research and writing of policy reports and plans for the Philadelphia Metropolitan region. Issues to be addressed may include inter-municipal planning, land use and corridor planning, housing, transit-oriented development, growth management, and revitalization of older communities, among others. Intern may be responsible for policy research, quantitative analysis or GIS production, depending on interests and ability.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• The student will assist professional staff with research, data collection, graphic design and report preparation. Intern may also participate or assist in meetings with stakeholders, study committees, and other government agencies. Field work on specific studies may also be included.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Knowledge of, and interest in, smart growth and regional planning issues in Philadelphia.
• Ability to perform in-depth research.
• Excellent writing and verbal skills.
• Initiative and ability to work independently and in teams.
• High level of professionalism.

AVAILABILITY:
This position requires a minimum commitment of 8-15 hours per week (1-2 days/week).

SALARY:
Students with PHEAA Work Study preferred.  Unpaid internship.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & TRAINING:
Must have completed at least THREE YEARS of a college/university program or be enrolled in a master’s program (preferred), or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
