Environmental Planning Intern

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Assist with the research and writing of policy reports and plans for the Philadelphia Metropolitan area. Issues to be addressed may include opportunities for inter-municipal cooperation and regional coordination, mobility for access to jobs and welfare reform, land use of open space plans, and demographic forecasting. Intern may be responsible for policy research, quantitative analysis or GIS production, depending on interests and ability.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The student will assist professional staff with research, data collection, graphics design and report preparation. Depending on the area of interest, the selected student could participate in:

• Analysis of emerging economic opportunities
• Alternative housing programs
• Coastal zone management
• Access to employment centers
• Open space planning

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Interest and experience in regional planning issues in the Philadelphia Metropolitan area.
• Ability to perform in-depth research.
• Excellent writing skills and initiative are essential.
• GIS experience a plus, PC experience required.

AVAILABILITY:
This position requires a minimum commitment of 15-20 hours per week (2-3 days/week) during Spring and Fall semesters. Up to 37.5 hours per week during the summer semester.

SALARY:
Students with PHEAA Work Study preferred.  Unpaid internship.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & TRAINING:
Must have completed at least THREE YEARS of a college/university program or be enrolled in a master's program (preferred), or an equivalent combination of experience and training
