DISCUSSION ITEM

1. Discussion Item: Smart Commute Mortgage Initiative

Ira Goldstein of The Reinvestment Fund (TRF) will discuss the Smart Commute initiative, which was recently launched in Southeast Pennsylvania. Made possible through a partnership between Citizen's Bank and Fannie Mae, the concept and criteria for this innovative mortgage program was researched and developed by the Reinvestment Fund, working with DVRPC.

2. Discussion Item: Reinvestment in Centers and Corridors

Heather Kump, Regional Economic Policy Planner, Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC), will review ongoing work on DVRPC's current project entitled Residential Investment in Centers and Corridors. The purpose of this project is to assess existing trends in residential growth and investment and identify obstacles and opportunities for residential reinvestment in the region's cities, boroughs and older suburbs. Work on the project's first phase commenced on July 1, 2001. A second phase highlighting examples of successful residential redevelopment in centers began on July 1, 2002. Ms. Kump will describe the first year's efforts, discuss the direction of the second phase and identify potential case studies.

3. Discussion Item: Live/Work Development

Mary Bell, Senior Regional Planner, will introduce a new DVRPC work program project which focuses on live/work development. Preliminary work on this project began on July 1, 2002.

4. Discussion Item: DVRPC FY2004 Work Program

John Griffies, DVRPC's Work Program Coordinator, will review the process and timetable for development of the Commission's FY2004 Work Program. Each year DVRPC develops a Work Program of projects and initiatives to be undertaken during the next Fiscal Year. We are currently developing project ideas for FY2004, to begin July 1, 2003. A list of proposed FY2004 Work Program projects is enclosed, which will be reviewed and prioritized at the meeting. Projects receiving the highest priority will be referred to the DVRPC Work Program Committee for consideration.

5. Discussion Item: County and Agency Updates

Members of the Regional Housing Committee are invited to update the committee on ongoing housing activities and initiatives within their individual County or agency.
