DISCUSSION ITEM

1. Discussion Item: Transportation and Community Development Initiative (TCDI)

Barry Seymour, Assistant Executive Director for Regional Planning, will discuss DVRPC's new Transportation and Community Development Initiative (TCDI). The TCDI will provide funding of up to $100,000 in selected municipalities to undertake planning, analysis or design initiatives for projects which enhance development or redevelopment and improve the efficiency of the regional transportation system. Seventy-eight municipalities and five Philadelphia City Planning Areas are eligible, on a competitive basis, to receive funding from this program. The applications will be reviewed by a steering committee and selected by the DVRPC Board.

2. Discussion Item: Reinvestment in Centers and Corridors

Heather Kump, Regional Economic Policy Planner, Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC), will review ongoing work on DVRPC's current project entitled Residential Investment in Centers and Corridors. The purpose of this project is to assess existing trends in residential growth and investment and identify obstacles and opportunities for residential reinvestment in the region's cities, boroughs and older suburbs. Data on population growth, building permits, mortgage lending trends and school enrollment is currently being collected and analyzed. The project will also include an assessment of several examples of successful residential infill and/or adaptive reuse developments in the region's centers. Work on this project commenced on July 1, 2001, and project completion is anticipated by June 30, 2002.

3. Discussion Item: Work Program Update

Mary Bell, Senior Regional Planner, DVRPC, will update the Committee on the status of DVRPC's draft FY 2003 Work Program.
