DELAWARE VALLEY REGIONAL PLANNING COMMISSION
REGIONAL HOUSING COMMITTEE MEETING

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 6, 2001
10:00 A.M.

AGENDA

1. Presentation: Homeownership: A Dream Still Vanishing?

Mary Bell, Senior Regional Planner, will present the results of the Commission's recently completed affordable housing assessment, Homeownership: A Dream Still Vanishing?. In a 1990 report entitled Homeownership: A Vanishing Dream?, DVRPC undertook an assessment of housing affordability in the Delaware Valley, focusing specifically on the ability of a median income family to purchase a median-priced housing unit in each of the region's 353 municipalities. Difficulties in securing sound, affordable housing in accessible locations continue to affect moderate and median income households. The current study updates DVRPC's 1990 housing affordability assessment, using 1998 housing and tax data. Unlike the first study, the report also considers housing affordability for first-time homebuyers and for families who already own a home but are considering relocating, in addition to median-income families.

2. Discussion Item: FY 2002 work program project

Mary Bell will review the existing scope of work for a housing-related project included in DVRPC's FY2001 Work Program, titled Residential Investment in Centers and Corridors. The purpose of this project is to assess existing trends in residential growth and investment and review obstacles and opportunities for residential reinvestment in the region's cities, boroughs and older suburbs. Work on this project will commence on July 1, 2001, with project completion anticipated by June 30, 2002.

3. Discussion Item: County and agency updates
