1. Welcome and Introductions: Barry Seymour, Executive Director, DVRPC
2. Design Excellence Project: Todd Bressi, Brown & Keener Bressi
DVRPC is currently partnering with Brown & Keener Bressi to undertake the Design Excellence Project, the goal of which is to promote and support design excellence for public and private projects in the physical environment of the Delaware Valley. The intent of the project, funded by the William Penn Foundation, is to define and critique the existing processes governing design and design review; assess best practices from comparable cities and regions to identify potential models for promoting design excellence in the Philadelphia region; and prepare a prioritized set of recommendations for enhancing the quality of the design of the built environment. Mr. Bressi will discuss the background and scope of the project as well as its current status and anticipated outcomes.
3. The Community Design Collaborative's "Design Challenge": Beth Miller, Executive Director, Community Design Collaborative
The Community Design Collaborative of AIA Philadelphia is a community design center serving nonprofit organizations in the Philadelphia region. The Collaborative recently sponsored its "Design Challenge", which brought together three teams of architects and engineers who developed solutions to affordable housing for specific in-fill sites in Philadelphia. Ms. Miller will discuss the ongoing work of the Collaborative and three unique approaches to the design and construction of affordable in-fill housing.
4. Opportunities for Commonwealth Leadership to Revitalize PA: Julie Lalo, 10,000 Friends of Pennsylvania
The Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania recently released a legislative policy brief that defines opportunities for the Commonwealth's leaders to preserve Pennsylvania's rich heritage, conserve resources, strengthen the economy, and build vibrant, active communities by facilitating the revitalization of the Commonwealth's older communities (see enclosed). Ms. Lalo will give a brief presentation and lead a discussion about this paper.
5. Tracking Progress toward 2030: Regional Indicators for the DVRPC Long-Range Plan: Mary Bell, Principal Planning Analyst, DVRPC
The intent of DVRPC's Regional Performance Indicators project is to develop and apply indicators to measure the Delaware Valley's progress toward attaining the transportation, land use, economic development, and environmental protection goals adopted in the Commission's Long Range Plan. Ms. Bell will brief the Committee on the background, scope, and current status of this project, followed by a brief discussion focused on indicators tracking progress in the areas of growth management and urban revitalization.
6. 2008 Work Program Development - Patty Elkis, Associate Director, Comprehensive Planning, DVRPC
Each year DVRPC develops an annual work program of projects and initiatives to be undertaken during the following fiscal year. Ms. Elkis will review the schedule and process for developing the Commission's FY2008 work program, followed by a discussion of potential work program project ideas.
