GIS / Mapping
A Geographic Information System (GIS) is an important planning tool that provides benefits to DVRPC, its member agencies, and others by supporting state, regional, county, and local planning and technical efforts. Nearly all projects incorporate GIS technology, whether it is for data collection and storage, or analysis and presentation. GIS allows planners to view and query spatial data, perform advanced analysis to discover relationships, patterns, and trends, and effectively present information to decision-makers and the public.
Map Sales
Maps are essential tools for planning and analysis. Maps provide a graphic representation of data and information that add depth and clarity to any report or presentation. Printed maps are available for sale at both report size = R (8.5" x 11" or 11" x 17") at a cost of $5.00 or as wall size = W (generally 34" x 46") at a cost of $35.00. Report maps can usually be prepared immediately but wall maps may require several days advance notice.

Online Mapping
The Geographic Information System (GIS) Mapping Center provides several web mapping applications developed by DVRPC as part of our Regional Information Network. Each application covers a different geographical area along with a selective subset of GIS data for that area. With each application, you can interactively view thematic data, geographic features, create your own custom map and access detailed reports about certain features.
Online Mapping is a way for DVRPC to present a large number of geographic information layers to the general public without our need to transfer large files or for users to purchase special GIS software. In addition to the applications listed below, DVRPC will continue to add online applications in the future for your use.

Other Resources
Aerial Photographs are another essential tool for planning and analysis that work hand-in-hand with maps. They can show the evolution of site conditions over time and look great in reports and presentations. DVRPC has aerial photograph prints available for the DVRPC nine-county region by five year intervals from 1965 to 2005, with limited coverage available for 1959. DVRPC's Year 2000/5 imagery is available in digital format.
Custom Mapping services are now available to the public. In addition to a wide variety of base maps that currently exist in our reports and in the Map Gallery, custom maps can also be created for almost any geography in DVRPC's four-state, 28-county Extended Data Service area. Contact our GIS Manager (listed below) for more information.
