Web Development Intern
Job Description
This Intern position is in the Office of Information Technology. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Webmaster and Database Administrator.
Responsibilities
- Create database-driven web applications.
- Update and maintain existing database applications.
- Standardization/modification of existing code and programs.
- Validation of code to XHTML and Web Accessibility standards.
- Testing various sections of our website in different browsers and operating systems.
- Assisting with the assignment of keywords and descriptions for static/dynamic pages and an internal photo RSS database.
- Thoroughly documenting all work through the use of comments, metadata and a work-completed log.
- Build databases, design reports, and deliver solutions in Microsoft Access and Oracle.
- Review and evaluate requests to develop or modify reports.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of HTML, XHTML, CSS, Active Server Pages (ASP/ASP.NET), SQL, C# or VB.
- Working knowledge of XML, Javascript, and AJAX.
- Familiarity with Web Accessibility Initiative, RSS standards, jQuery, content management principals, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a plus;
- Knowledge of database concepts, data manipulation and advance SQL query scripting.
- Experience creating Access Database Applications and developing modules with VBA.
- Ability to design and execute complex queries, PL/SQL in Oracle.
- Strong problem solving skills a must, including ability to identify, analyze and solve problems.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Availability
This position requires a minimum commitment of 22.5 to 37.5 hours per week (3-5 days/week).
Compensation
Students with Work Study grants preferred.
