Transportation Operations/ITS Intern
Job Description
Transportation Operations involves working with other transportation agencies and emergency responders to manage events that adversely impact transportation like major traffic accidents, road construction activity, unfavorable weather conditions, and major evacuations. The Intern will assist DVRPC's Office of Transportation Operations Management in developing plans and programs for operating agencies. Activities may include field data collection, mapping, GIS analysis, traffic signal optimization software, meetings with operations staff and emergency responders, and assisting in the preparation technical documents.
Responsibilities
- Assist in field views and collection of data from other agencies.
- Participate in meetings with transportation operations agencies and emergency responders.
- Assist in the preparation of technical documents including graphics, maps, tables, and other visual displays.
- Perform related work as required.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in word processing software and Microsoft Excel.
- Familiarity with ArcGIS.
- Ability to perform field studies and data collection.
- Ability to read, interpret and relate geographic and statistical data.
- Ability to establish effective relations with associates and with representatives of public and private organizations.
- Ability to analyze and prepare technical data into clear and concise reports.
- Knowledge of and interest in transportation planning.
Availability
This position requires a minimum commitment of 10 to 22.5 hours per week (2-3 days/week). Up to 37.5 hours per week during the summer semester.
Compensation
Students with Work Study grants preferred.
Minimum Experience and Training
Must be in an approved internship program as part of a college or university, or have a baccalaureate degree in any discipline, plus substantial experience, interest or involvement in transportation issues.
