Safety and Congestion Management Intern
Job Description
This internship is an opportunity to improve multimodal transportation safety and better manage regional congestion. It involves transportation and land use planning work with the Safety and Security program, Regional Congestion Management Process (including its cutting edge analysis of archived operations data), and Central Jersey Transportation Forum. It will involve independent work on discrete projects as well as providing assistance with broader efforts.
Responsibilities
- Participate in transportation planning and safety studies such as Road Safety Audits and analysis of archived operations data, including preparing and analyzing technical data
- Analyze large databases of archived operations data, prepare maps and tables, and write summaries
- Assist in preparing reports and memoranda, including crash diagrams, charts, and maps
- Assist with research including reading articles, books and internet searches
- Perform related work as required
Qualifications
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Access, ArcGIS, and Illustrator or a similar graphics program
- Ability to assimilate complex technical information and discuss it clearly verbally and in writing
- Ability to perform field studies and summarize findings
- Ability to establish effective relations with associates and representatives of other organizations
- Familiarity with Synchro or a similar program is helpful but not required
- Knowledge of and interest in transportation and land use planning principles and issues
Availability
This position requires a minimum commitment of 14 hours per week, but is better suited to someone who can work 30 hours per week for the whole semester.
Compensation
Students with Work Study grants preferred.
Minimum Education & Training
Must have completed at least THREE YEARS of a college/university program or be enrolled in a master's program (preferred), or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
