Human Resources Intern

Job Description

This is junior or senior level work assisting the Office of Human Resources. The intern will participate in various stages of professional and technical duties within the framework of a comprehensive human resources program. The incumbent will assist the Director, Human Resources and the Human Resources Manager in areas of administration, HRIS, recruiting, and HRD. Primary supervision is received from the Human Resources Manager who provides advice and checks the work in progress or upon completion for adherence to standards and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with data entry of transferring data between HRIS systems. Assist with maintaining databases.
  • Assist with recruiting process including preparation and dissemination of correspondence to DVRPC applicants, reviewing resumes, and recommending sourcing areas.
  • Assist in planning for DVPRC staff-oriented events.
  • Research leading practices within Human Resources via contacting similar organizations and networking.
  • Research legal cases and compile significant legal cases for the human resources department's review.
  • Assist in general administration.
  • Perform related work as required.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and/or experience with general human resources principles.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communications skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat a must; knowledge of database programs and/or HRIS helpful.
  • Ability to prioritize work, multi-task, and recognize confidential nature of information.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Experience in, or knowledge of, regional planning a plus.

Availability

This position requires a minimum commitment of 20 to 22.5 hours per week.

Compensation

Students with Work Study grants preferred.

Minimum Education & Training

Three years of a college/university program with some professional administrative experience, or be enrolled in a human resources master's program (preferred), or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
