GIS Intern

Job Description

DVRPC is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to perform beginning level work in our GIS Office. This is an intern position assisting the GIS Office staff in the update of our land use file. There may be other opportunities to work on GIS database development and cartographic requests.

Work is performed in accordance with well-prescribed procedures and defined objectives under close technical and methodological supervision.

Responsibilities

Some basic responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Interprets land use classification from digital orthophotography.
  • Performs heads-up digitizing using ArcGIS.
  • Modifies existing database through geoprocessing tools.
  • Performs edits resulting from QC process.
  • Assists GIS staff as required.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of ArcGIS software
  • Familiarity with aerial photography
  • Ability to work independently

Availability

A commitment of up to 22.5 hours per week (3 days) during the spring semester is preferred.

Compensation

Students with Work Study grants preferred.

Minimum Education and Training

Must have completed at least THREE YEARS of a college/university program or be enrolled in a master's program (preferred), or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
