Environmental Planning Intern

Job Description

Assist with DVRPC's environmental planning projects, including researching and writing policy reports and plans for the Philadelphia Metropolitan area. Issues to be addressed may include environmental resource protection; land use; and open space and farmland preservation. Intern may also be responsible for policy research, interviews, case study research, quantitative analysis, report writing, and public speaking, depending on project needs and candidate's interests and abilities.

Responsibilities

The student will assist professional staff with field research, data collection, data analysis, graphics, report preparation, and event planning. Intern will be an integral member of a project team and will participate and assist in meetings with municipal officials, study advisory committees, and other government agencies.

Qualifications

  • Interest and experience in regional planning issues in the Philadelphia Metropolitan area.
  • Interest and some background in environmental and land use issues affecting municipalities.
  • Ability to perform in-depth research independently.
  • Ability to read, interpret and relate geographic data and statistical data.
  • Excellent writing skills and initiative are essential.
  • Proficiency in MS Office XP Software Suite is required, GIS experience a plus.

Availability

Position requires a commitment 37.5 hours per week during the summer. A commitment of 7.5 to 22.5 hours per week fall and spring semester is preferred. This position also requires attendance at some events outside of regular business hours on a limited basis.

Compensation

Students with Work Study grants preferred.

Minimum Education and Training

Must have completed at least THREE YEARS of a college/university program or be enrolled in a master's program (preferred), or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
